In support of faculty teams that engage real-world sustainability challenges, the ISE is thrilled to announce the recipients of the inaugural Network Catalyst Grants for 2023-2024. Two interdisciplinary faculty teams will utilize these grants to cultivate partnership networks beyond the university, resulting in productive avenues for applied research that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Congratulations to the recipients:
Led by Dr. Nadine Kabbani (Systems Biology), Dr. Jennifer Salerno (Environmental Science and Policy, and Dr. James Olds (Schar School), the HAB-LABwill leverage participatory science to forge policy responses to algal blooms (HABs) throughout northern Virginia.
The EMBRACE team will build upon existing community-based networks in the DC region dedicated to improving access to health services. This interdisciplinary project is led by Dr. Y. Alicia Hong (Health Administration & Policy), Dr. Ali Weinstein (Global & Community Health), Dr. Amira Roess (Global & Community Health), Dr. Pramita Bagchi (Statistics), and Dr. Siddhartha Sikdar (Bioengineering).
Throughout 2023-24, the HAB-LAB and EMBRACE teams will work with ISE personnel to build a transdisciplinary community of research and practice that extends deeply into our broader regional community. One key outcome of the grant period will be the development of an extramural funding strategy that will sustain network activities and support putting research into action.
