This symposium will bring together Mason and Smithsonian researchers to discuss various research problems, projects, and techniques for leveraging the data resources to which we collectively have access.

Discussion will center on numerous types of data, including images, species occurrences, geolocalities, taxonomic/biodiversity literature, and genomics data, and how researchers can utilize different machine learning methods and tools to provide new insights about ecology and evolution and also potentially impact conservation policy. In addition, the symposium will explore mechanisms on how to enable Smithsonian Institution fellowships for Mason students.

This session is limited to 30 Mason and Smithsonian faculty and postdoctoral scholar attendees who wish to identify specific opportunities for collaboration.
